The EU Grants for Literary Translation are aimed at publishing houses or publishing groups wishing to translate literary works (poetry, novels, short stories, comic books, plays etc.) from one European language into another. Applications from publishers seeking EU support to translate books that have won the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL) are especially encouraged.
Under the new Creative Europe programme (2014-2020), the EU continues to offer grants for literary translation, and now also supports the promotion of translated books. By the end of 2015, the programme has helped finance about 1000 translations, from and into a range of 34 European languages. With an estimated budget of about 30 million EUR for literary translation projects over 7 years, Creative Europe aims to support the translation of up to 4500 books.
